East Java is a province in the eastern part of Java Island, Indonesia. Its capital is Jakarta . Its area is 47,922 km ² and a population of 37,070,731 inhabitants (2005). East Java has the largest territory among the 6 provinces in Java, and has the second largest population in Indonesia after West Java , before the Unpack with the province of Banten . East Java bordering the Java Sea in the north, the Strait of Bali in the east, the Indian Ocean in the south, and Central Java province in the west. Region of East Java also includes the island of Madura, Bawean Island, Kangean Island and a number of small islands in the Java Sea and Indian Ocean (the island of Nusa Sempu and barung).
